Henry died on 30 Apr 1563, at the age of about 62, at Caus Castle in Shropshire. He was buried in Worthen church nearby on 6 May. He was succeeded in his titles by his eldest surviving son, Henry as 2nd Baron Stafford, who himself died two years later. His brother Edward Stafford was the third baron.

They were on their way to arrange a marriage. The groom in question was Henry Stafford. He was the second son of the Duke of Buckingham. The pair married on the 3rd January 1458 at Maxstowe Castle.

Henry Stafford is chiefly memorable for having failed to secure election as knight for Staffordshire to both parliaments of 1553. Nothing is known of what went wrong on the first occasion, when William Devereux and Walter Aston were returned although according to Baron Stafford his son was ' chosen by the whole shire, no man saying the contrary '.
