Animator Frank Thomas instilled vivid personality into his characters. These guidelines for making appealing and effective animations were crafted by studying the techniques of old-school Disney animators. Today, these principles are an important part of any professional animator’s toolkit.
Frank wrote a book called Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life, which was co-written with his best friend and fellow Disney nine old men animator, Ollie Johnston in 1981. It is recognized as one of the best books on animation ever written. If you want to learn about Disney's 12 fundamental principles for animation, this book is a must-read!
