The second son of Owen Tudor and Catherine of Valois, Jasper was created earl of Pembroke in 1452. He was one of the few die‐hard Lancastrians. Ruling Wales on behalf of Henry VI from 1457, he refused to come to terms with Edward IV after 1461.

Both he and his brother Edmund were half-brothers to King Henry VI. Jasper’s parents had secretly married around 1429 but had kept the marriage secret because Owen was a Welshman and a commoner.

It was a marriage that mirrored his nephew’s in some ways, the union of a Lancastrian to a prominent Yorkist-aligned bride.

Catherine was the French princess who married King Henry V of England and gave birth to King Henry VI. So Jasper and his elder brother Edmund were half-brothers of the Lancastrian king.
Brother of Edmund Tudor (father of the future Henry VII ). Jasper played a major role on behalf of the Lancastians in the Wars of the Roses and was with his nephew Henry Tudor in exile in Brittany. He married during Henry VII's reign, but had no legitimate heir. He may have fathered an illegitimate daughter named Ellen.
