Wellesley College was founded in 1870 by Pauline and Henry Fowle Durant. An impassioned believer in educational opportunity for women, Mr. Durant wanted to prepare them for “… great conflicts, for vast reforms in social life.”. When they founded the College, Mr. Durant proclaimed: “Women can do the work. I give them the chance.”.
Henry Richard Charles Wellesley, 1st Earl Cowley, KG, GCB, PC (17 June 1804 – 15 July 1884), known as The Lord Cowley between 1847 and 1857, was a British diplomat. He served as British Ambassador to France between 1852 and 1867.
Henry was born at Wilton Place, London on 14 January 1866. He was the eldest son of William Wellesley, 2nd Earl Cowley (1834–1895) and the former Emily Gwendoline Peers-Williams (1839–1932). His only sibling, Lady Eva Wellesley, married, as his second wife, Randolph Wemyss, Laird of Wemyss Castle and Chief of Clan Wemyss.
Henry Valerian George Wellesley, 6.º Duque de Wellington (14 de julho de 1912 – 16 de setembro de 1943) foi um militar e nobre britânico. Sucedeu a seu pai Arthur Wellesley, 5.º Duque de Wellington no ducado em 11 de dezembro de 1941.
The Henry Wellesley was one of five convict ships transporting female prisoners to New South Wales in the year 1836, the others being the Roslin Castle, Thomas Harrison, Elizabeth and Pyramus. A total of 668 female prisoners arrived in the colony in 1836. Two ships brought female prisoners from England - the Elizabeth and the Henry Wellesley.
