Ponsonby, John. Ponsonby, John (1713–87), politician, was born on 29 March 1713, the second son of Brabazon Ponsonby (qv) (1679–1758), 2nd Viscount Duncannon and 1st earl of Bessborough, and Sarah Colvill (née Margetson; d. 1733). He was admitted to TCD on 6 April 1730, but there is no evidence that he graduated.
Born in Corfu, he was the son of Major-General Sir Frederick Cavendish Ponsonby, an Anglo-Irish nobleman who was a senior commander in the British Army .
