  3. John Dickinson was one of the influential political thinkers and writers of the American Revolution. His Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania to the Inhabitants of the British Colonies (1768) set out the colonial argument for opposing British taxation more clearly and persuasively than any previous work.
