It was not until after her funeral that news began to trickle out, far beyond the inner circle of the English court, that somewhere in the last years of her life Katherine had conducted a secret relationship with a Welshman, Owen Tudor, far below her station.

Eventually, this Henry Tudor founded the Tudor dynasty as King Henry VII, after winning the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.

TUDOR, OWEN (d. 1461), grandfather of Henry VII, belonged to a Welsh family of great antiquity (cf. especially the appendix to Wynne’s edition of Powell’s History of Wales, 1697, where Henry VII’s descent is recorded).
From the relationship of Owen Tudor and Queen Catherine descended the Tudor dynasty of England, starting with King Henry VII. Tudor historians asserted that Owen and Catherine had been married, for their lawful marriage would add respectability and stronger royal ties to the claims of the Tudor dynasty. Owen and Catherine had at least six children.
Sir Owen Tudor, velšsky Owain ap Meredydd ap Tewdwr, (cca 1400 – 2. února 1461) byl velšským vojákem a dvořanem anglické královny Kateřiny z Valois (vdovy po králi Jindřichu V. ), na jejímž dvoře zastával úřad Keeper of the Queen's Wardrobe (který kromě péče o garderobu spravoval také soukromé finance královny).
Owen Tudor, en gallois Owain ap Maredudd ap Tudur, né vers 1400 à Anglesey au pays de Galles et mort le 3 février 1461 à Hereford en Angleterre, est un seigneur gallois connu surtout par sa relation amoureuse avec la reine Catherine de France, veuve d' Henri V, et par son rôle dans la fondation de la dynastie des Tudors .
