In 1956, the trio released their debut album, Ramsey Lewis and his Gentle-men of Swing. [7] Following their 1965 hit, " The 'In' Crowd " (the single reached No. 5 on the pop charts, and the album No. 2), they concentrated more on pop material.
The Ramsey Lewis Trio, with bassist Eldee Young and percussionist Redd Holt, became a fixture on the Chicago jazz scene, releasing their debut album, Ramsey Lewis & His Gentlemen of Jazz, back in 1956.

The seven-piece group provided Lewis his first involvement with jazz. He would later join drummer Isaac “Redd” Holt and bassist Eldee Young to form the celebrated Ramsey Lewis Trio, heard throughout this album, The Ramsey Lewis Trio in Chicago, one of their finest works from that period.
