1985. 6 January – The first Screen Two broadcast takes place. 7 January – The BBC ends its experiment with afternoon broadcasting and from this date Ceefax pages are shown continuously on BBC2 between 9am and 5:25pm apart from when Daytime on Two is in season and when sporting events are being shown.

BBC TV was split into BBC1 and BBC2 in 1964 with the new channel, BBC2, having a remit to provide more niche programming. The channel was due to launch on 20 April 1964, but this was postponed after a fire at Battersea Power Station resulted in most of west London, including Television Centre, losing power.
