The Pan American Games is a quadrennial event which began in 1951. The Pan American Sports Organization accepts only athletes who are representing one of the organisation's member states (most of which are within the Americas) and recognises records set at editions of the Pan American Games.
Formed in 1948, the Pan American Sports Organization has been leading the Olympic Movement of the Americas for more than 70 years. The organization’s primary mission is staging the Pan American Games every four years.
