The UNESCO has designated 175 World Heritage Sites in all of the 15 sovereign countries of Southern Europe: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Malta, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, and Vatican City as well as one site in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar.
The Westland and Mount Cook National Park and the Fiordland National Park, which were previously inscribed on the World Heritage List, are part of the "Te Wahipounamu - South West New Zealand". In 1979, the Committee decided to inscribe the Ohrid Lake on the World Heritage List under natural criteria (iii).
