The Colony of Queensland was a colony of the British Empire from 1859 to 1901, when it became a State in the federal Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901. A Colônia de Queensland, ou Queenslândia (em inglês: Colony of Queensland), foi uma colônia do Império Britânico que existiu de 1859 a 1901, quando se federou juntamente com as outras cinco colônias australianas para formar a Comunidade da Austrália.
On 6 June 1859 (now commemorated as Queensland Day), Queen Victoria signed the letters patent to establish the colony of Queensland, separating it from New South Wales and thereby establishing Queensland as a self-governing Crown colony with responsible government.

Queensland was originally part of the British-administered colony of New South Wales. This occupied a large part of the Australian continent. A desire to separate from New South Wales began to emerge as Queensland's economic significance increased and its productivity and population expanded.
