Roxanne is a girl with red eyes and brown hair, which is tied up into two pigtails with a red bow, with a small black U-stripe. Roxanne wears pink tights and a small tie-like pink scarf around her neck.
She loves rocks and loves the Pokémon Trainer's School. During her pre-battle conversation, she tells the player that she practices what she learns from school. This hints that she is a studious type of sorts, and is proud of her abilities to turn knowledge into power.
The name Roxanne comes from "rock". Her Japanese name, Tsutsuji, originates from 土 (tsuchi, the Japanese word for "soil"). Following the plant-based naming of most Gym Leaders, it may also literally be 躑躅 (tsutsuji, the Japanese name for the rhododendron genus of trees).
