The Wind River Indian Reservation is the seventh-largest American Indian reservation in the United States by area and the fifth-largest [6] by population. The land area is approximately 2.2 million acres (3,438 sq mi; 8,903 km 2 ), and the total area (land and water) is 3,532.01 square miles (9,147.9 km 2 ).

The Wind River is the name applied to the upper reaches of the Bighorn River in Wyoming in the United States. The Wind River is 185 miles (298 km) long. The two rivers are sometimes referred to as the Wind/Bighorn.
Encompassing more than 2.2 million acres, the Wind River Indian Reservation is home to the Eastern Shoshone and the Northern Arapaho tribes. Visitors to the area can go to powwows and museums to learn more about the local culture, or can recreate on thousands of acres of vast, unspoiled reservation lands (with a special permit).
Aside from the astounding beauty, the size of the range- 2.25 million acres stretching 110 miles- allows for a true wilderness experience. There are hundreds of lakes, meadows and peaks to explore and in certain areas you can go days without seeing other travelers.
