    Students who pursue a degree in marine biology receive the same solid background as a UO biology major, but also experience several terms of field-based learning at OIMB.
    The Oregon Institute of Marine Biology is a picturesque complex of laboratories, classrooms, and dormitories located in the southern coastal fishing village of Charleston, Oregon.

  4. The Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (or OIMB) is the marine station of the University of Oregon. This 100-acre (0.40 km 2) marine station is located in Charleston, Oregon at the mouth of Coos Bay. Currently, OIMB is home to several permanent faculty members and a number of graduate students.

The Department of Biologys teaching and research specialize in cellular and molecular biology, developmental biology, ecology and evolution, human biology, marine biology, neuroscience and behavior, and bioinformatics. Our students learn and work alongside scientists making important contributions in their field of expertise.

  6. OIMB offers graduate degrees (PhD and MS) in biology for studies with a major focus on marine organisms and their interaction with the environment. Topics of study are based on the expertise and willingness of OIMB faculty to support a graduate student’s scientific investigation for his or her thesis.
