With Transformer, Lou Reed got VU fan and influential glam rock artist David Bowie and Spiders From Mars guitarist Mick Ronson to produce and backup sing on the album.
Transformer is a rock album that features New York sounds, such as cabaret, doo-wop, and jazz, and contains Reed's biggest hit, "Walk on the Wild Side". The album cover photo was overexposed, and so was Reed, who was trying to find his way as a solo artist after the Velvet Underground.
