In 1989, Joseph Joestar arrives in Japan to meet his troubled grandson Jotaro Kujo at the request of his daughter Holly. Jotaro has locked himself in a jail cell out of fear that an evil spirit is possessing him and that he may cause harm to others.
Battle Tendency follows Joseph Joestar, Jonathan's grandson, as he battles other vampires and eventually the Pillar Men. It turns out these Pillar Men are the makers of the stone masks (which create normal vampires), and are after the Red Stone of Asia in order to become the ultimate life forms.
