This marks the first time that UBC has entered the top 40 of the global rankings amongst 1,503 institutions in 104 countries.
UBC ranks among the top five per cent of universities in the world in various global rankings, based on its excellence in teaching, research and global impact. UBC also excels in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which assess universities' contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
UBC is among the top 25 universities globally in 13 subject areas, according to the 2020 QS World University Rankings by Subject. The rankings also place UBC in the top 50 in 36 subject areas, reflecting its academic excellence and diversity.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is recognized as the precursor of global university rankings and the most trustworthy one. ARWU presents the world's top 1000 research universities annually based on transparent methodology and objective third-party data.
