The narwhal (Monodon monoceros), is a species of toothed whale, and the only member of the genus Monodon. Its closest living relative is the beluga whale, and a single case of interbreeding between the two species has been recorded.
The narwhal looks like a cross between a whale and a unicorn with its long, spiraled tusk jutting from its head. Males most commonly have tusks, and some may even have two. The tusk, which can grow as long as 10 feet, is actually an enlarged tooth.

Males possess a long straight tusk that projects forward from above the mouth. The tusk grows more than 3 meters (9.8 feet) long.
