A Landtag (State Diet) is generally the legislative assembly or parliament of a federated state or other subnational self-governing entity in German-speaking nations. It is usually a unicameral assembly exercising legislative competence in non-federal matters.
In the federal system of the Federal Republic of Germany, the state parliaments embody the legislative power in the sixteen states. In thirteen of the sixteen German states, the state parliament is known as the Landtag (an old German term that roughly means state parliament).

They are called “Landtag” in the thirteen non-city states, “Bürgerschaft” in the city states of Hamburg and Bremen, and “Abgeordnetenhaus” in Berlin. The constitutions of the individual Länder provide the framework for shaping electoral legislation at Land level.
The parliament of each federal state, the Landtag, is the body that represents the people in each federal state (distinct terminology is used to describe this parliament in Berlin, where it is known as the Abgeordnetenhaus, and in Hamburg and Bremen, where it is called the Bürgerschaft).

In Brandenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen, Baden-Württemberg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hamburg, you can vote from the age of 16 - German citizenship remains a requirement.
