Com base no Festival de Música de Sanremo, que surgiu em Itália em 1951, a Eurovisão realiza-se anualmente (além de 2020) desde 1956, tornando-se a competição de música televisiva internacional mais longa do mundo e um dos programas de televisão mais longos do mundo.
The Eurovision Song Contest 1961 was the sixth edition of the contest, organised by RTF and held on 18 March 1961 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France. France became the first country to host two contests, with the Palais des Festivals having also hosted the 1959 event.
