Downe House School is an independent girls' boarding and day school in Cold Ash near Newbury, Berkshire, for girls aged 11–18. Entrance is selective, and the school has an enrolment of 559.

Upper School Houses. Our Upper School houses represent one of the most rewarding phases of boarding school life. Girls joining us at 13+ will move into one of the five Upper School houses alongside the current pupils who have progressed through the Lower School.
Established in 1907, Downe House is a traditional boarding and day school with a modern approach for girls aged 11-18. Situated in a beautiful Berkshire 110-acre woodland estate, Downe House offers family-friendly boarding balanced with an exceptional range of opportunities.
Girls in the Lower School enter one of the newly built or newly refurbished Lower School Boarding Houses, Hermitage, Hill or Darwin. Our aim is to provide the girls with a home away from home and the purpose-built Houses provide a comfortable and tremendously nurturing environment for the transition to boarding school life.
