Chad has made progress in poverty reduction during the last decade, with the poverty rate moving from 47 % in 2011 to 42 % in 2018. However, the loss of income reduced domestic transfers and remittances.

Based on these estimates, 84.2 percent of the population in Chad (14,461 thousand people in 2021) is multidimensionally poor while an additional 10.7 percent is classified as vulnerable to multidimensional poverty (1,832 thousand people in 2021).
