A primeira edição continha quatro notas escritas por Clausewitz sobre as suas teorias, datadas de diversos períodos entre 1816 e 1830, como introduções ao próprio Da Guerra - uma prática adotada pela maioria das edições alemãs e estrangeiras posteriores.
O General von Caemmerer, o mais eminente entre os intelectuais da sua geração conhecedores de Clausewitz, chamou a atenção para a divergência existente com relação a esta questão entre Clausewitz e Moltke, e revelou estar convencido “da exatidão, em todos os aspectos, das idéias de Clausewitz.”10 Mas von der Goltz expressou a visão da maioria ao recusar-se a aceitar isto.

25 de fev. de 2006 · The Author of the work here translated, General Carl Von Clausewitz, was born at Burg, near Magdeburg, in 1780, and entered the Prussian Army as Fahnenjunker (i.e., ensign) in 1792. He served in the campaigns of 1793-94 on the Rhine, after which he seems to have devoted some time to the study of the scientific branches of his profession.
