  1. The University of Oregon offers a rigorous undergraduate major in Marine Biology. Students receive solid training in modern biology for the first two years, then spend at least three terms in residence at OIMB.

    Internships and Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programs are valuable opportunities to pursue while completing your undergraduate degree. OIMB offers its own internship and REU programs and also maintains a list of outside resources.

    Every other summer, OIMB offers a Tropical Marine Biology course in Panama. UO also has a large study abroadprogram with many opportunities for Marine Biology students.

  3. The University of Oregon offers the only marine biology degree in the Pacific Northwest. Students who pursue a degree in marine biology receive the same solid background as a UO biology major, but also experience several terms of field-based learning at OIMB.

  4. The Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (or OIMB) is the marine station of the University of Oregon. This 100-acre (0.40 km 2) marine station is located in Charleston, Oregon at the mouth of Coos Bay. Currently, OIMB is home to several permanent faculty members and a number of graduate students.

  5. OIMB offers graduate degrees (PhD and MS) in biology for studies with a major focus on marine organisms and their interaction with the environment. Topics of study are based on the expertise and willingness of OIMB faculty to support a graduate student’s scientific investigation for his or her thesis.
