If we can believe “Coal Miner's Daughter” (and I gather that, by and large, we can), here's a life which began in the poverty of the coalfields of Kentucky and led almost overnight to show-business stardom.
At only 13, Loretta Webb marries Oliver "Doolittle" Lynn and is soon responsible for a large family. She appears destined to a life of homemaking, but Doolittle recognizes her musical talent, and buys her a guitar as an anniversary present one year.
