Robert Anthony Eden, 1st Earl of Avon, KG, MC, PC (12 June 1897 – 14 January 1977) was a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party from 1955 until his resignation in 1957.

Anthony Eden (born June 12, 1897, Windlestone, Durham, England—died January 14, 1977, Alvediston, Wiltshire) was a British foreign secretary in 1935–38, 1940–45, and 1951–55 and prime minister from 1955 to 1957. After combat service in World War I, Eden studied Oriental languages (Arabic and Persian) at Christ Church, Oxford.

Conservative 1955 to 1957. Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden is best known for his controversial handling of the Suez crisis in 1956, during the second year of his premiership.
When he finally became Prime Minister in 1955, he quickly called a general election, winning a renewed majority. But he soon embroiled his premiership in a crisis over the Suez Canal. In 1956, he ordered an invasion of Egypt, which turned into a political disaster. He resigned soon afterward.
