Os foraminíferos haplóides, denominados gamontes, possuem um núcleo simples, que se divide para formar numerosos gametas, que tipicamente possuem dois flagelos. Já os organismos diplóides, ou esquizontes, são multinucleados, e a formação de gametas se dá por meiose .
