Maha Thray Sithu U Thant (Ayeyarwady, 22 de janeiro de 1909 – Nova Iorque, 25 de novembro de 1974) foi um político da Birmânia (presentemente Mianmar). Foi o terceiro secretário-geral das Nações Unidas, com dois mandatos de 1962 a 1971.
From 1951 to 1957, Thant was secretary to the prime minister, writing speeches for U Nu, arranging his foreign travel, and meeting foreign visitors. During this entire period, he was U Nu's closest confidant and advisor.
U Thant was a Myanmar educator, civil servant, and the third secretary general of the United Nations (1962–71). Neutralist by inclination and in practice, he criticized both West and East for actions and attitudes that he considered threatening to world peace.
