Just upstream of the official eastern limit of the Bristol Channel, within the Severn Estuary, is the city and port of Bristol, originally established inland on the River Avon but now with larger commercial deep water docks on the Severn Estuary, which is one of the most important ports in Britain.
The Severn is the greatest river in terms of water flow in England and Wales. The river is usually considered to become the Severn Estuary after the Second Severn Crossing. The river then discharges into the Bristol Channel, which discharges into the Atlantic Ocean.
