The Routes of Santiago de Compostela: Camino Francés and Routes of Northern Spain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Spain. It was designated in 1993, and later expanded and renamed in 2015.
The almost 1500-km-long network of four Northern Routes (Primitive, Coastal, Interior of the Basque Country-La Rioja, and Liébana) are at the origin of the Jacobean pilgrimage. They are directly linked to the discovery of the Apostle’s tomb, and to its promotion by the Kingdom of Asturias.
That part of the original Route which will be submerged by the heightening of the Dam will be preserved in a similar way to the section now beneath the concrete runway of the airport of Santiago de Compostela, which has already been accepted as part of the World Heritage property.

It begins in Irún and on its way it passes through incredible cities such as San Sebastián, Bilbao, Santander or Gijón.
3 de mai. de 2023 · The Camino Francés, the most well-trodden of the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, traverses an impressive span of about 780 kilometers, beginning at the foot of the Pyrenees in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, crossing diverse landscapes, and ending in the sacred city of Santiago.
The Camino de Santiago (Latin: Peregrinatio Compostellana, lit. ' Pilgrimage of Compostela '; Galician: O Camiño de Santiago), or in English the Way of St. James, is a network of pilgrims' ways or pilgrimages leading to the shrine of the apostle James in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition holds that the remains of the apostle are buried.
