Community. About Moreland Hills. The Village of Moreland Hills is a residential suburb located approximately 14 miles east of Cleveland. The village has a semi-rural character and thus has retained much of its pastoral charm over the years. Residences sit on two-acre lots throughout most of the village.
BORN: Orange Township – now the Village of Moreland Hills, Ohio. November 19, 1831. MILITARY: Colonel of the 42nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Later he was promoted to brigadier general. INAUGURATION: 1881 as 20th President of the United States. His presidency lasted for 100 days.
Moreland Hills is one of 7 communities that formed out of the original Orange Twp., established in 1820. A village charter was adopted on 7 Nov. 1972, with a mayor-council form of government. Settlement began in 1815 in the areas where the road that became Ohio Route 87 crosses the CHAGRIN RIVER.
