Biography. O’Halloran was born in Cork, the second youngest of eight children. He is a past pupil of Douglas Community School.
Prof. John O’Halloran is President of University College Cork. He is an academic leader with an ambitious vision for the future of higher education, and an advocate for inclusivity in education, the transformative power of collaboration and forging a sustainable future.
Research. As a scientist my research interests are in pure and applied biology particularly ornithology, ecotoxicology and forest ecology. The main focus of my research is to develop a deeper understanding of the impacts of environmental change and disturbance related to land-use change, climate change and environmental contaminants.
My Background. A proud alumnus of University College Cork, I graduated with a degree in Zoology in 1984, a PhD in 1987 and was awarded a DSc for my published works in 2009. I have published over 250 research papers and a number of books, details of which are set out in my publication list.
