John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk KG, also known as Jack of Norfolk, (c. 1425 – 22 August 1485), was an English nobleman, soldier, politician, and the first Howard Duke of Norfolk. He was a close friend and loyal supporter of King Richard III , with whom he was slain at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.

John Howard 1st Duke of Norfolk was born in 1422, in Horsham Saint Faith, Norfolk, England as the son of Robert Howard and Margaret de MOWBRAY. He married Lady Catherine de Moleyns in August 1441, in Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk, England. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 5 daughters. He registered for military service in 1453.
Soldier and politician John Howard was the son of Sir Robert Howard and Margaret Mowbray. He became the 1st Duke of Norfolk in 1483. Howard was known as 'Jack of Norfolk'. He had the support of Edward IV of England who made him Constable of Norwich Castle, Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk and Treasurer of the Royal Household.
