Herb Jaffe (May 20, 1921- December 7, 1991) was an independent film producer in the United States. He died at the age of 70 years of in Beverly Hills, California. Biography.
Milius' second feature film, it was produced by Herb Jaffe for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and distributed in the U.S. by United Artists and internationally by Columbia Pictures. It received generally positive reviews from critics, and was a moderate commercial success.
The film is based on the 1980 novel The Edge by Frank D. Gilroy, who sold the film rights to the Ladd Company at Warner Bros. Ladd then sold the project to Herb Jaffe of United Artists for $300,000 and Jaffe hired David Newman to rewrite the script.
