Frederick III, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (14 April 1699 – 10 March 1772), was a duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. Biography. He was born in Gotha, the eldest son of Frederick II, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and Magdalene Augusta of Anhalt-Zerbst . After the death of his father, in 1732, Frederick III assumed the duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg.

Frederick (III) (born c. 1286—died Jan. 13, 1330, Gutenstein, Austria) was a German king from 1314 to 1326, also duke of Austria (as Frederick III) from 1308, the second son of the German king Albert I.
Description. This portrait is traditionally identified as Frederick III of Saxe-Gotha, the eldest son of Frederick II of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and Magdalena Augusta, Princess of Anhalt-Zerbst. In 1729 he married Luise Dorothea of Saxe-Meiningen.
