Northern Harbour District Northern Harbour District. The Northern Harbour District forms part of the Central Region. It contains 13 local councils including the city of Qormi, with the largest locality being Birkirkara (pop. 22,314). The smallest one is Ta' Xbiex (pop. 1,657).

Sliema ( Maltese: Tas-SliemaMaltese pronunciation: [tɐsˈslɪː.mɐ]) is a town located on the northeast coast of Malta in the Northern Harbour District. It is a major residential and commercial area and a centre for shopping, bars, dining, and café life. It is also the most densely populated town on the island.
Malta is subdivided into 6 regions ( Maltese: reġjuni ). Three regions were originally created by the Local Councils Act of 1993, and were integrated into the constitution in 2001. [1] [better source needed] Two of the regions were split into smaller ones by Act No. XVI of 2009, and Malta was divided into five regions. [2]
The harbours and the surrounding areas make up Malta's Northern and Southern Harbour Districts. Together, these districts contain 27 of 68 local councils . They have a population of 213,722 which make up over 47% of the total population of the Maltese islands.
