Cegléd a negyedik legnépesebb település Pest vármegyében, Érd, Dunakeszi és Szigetszentmiklós után, és a legnépesebb a Ceglédi járásban, amelynek a székhelye. Az „Alföld kapuja”. A Duna-Tisza közében, a fővárostól 74 kilométerre fekszik délkeletre.
Cegléd is situated between the Duna and Tisza rivers, north of Kiskunság, at the western part of the Great Hungarian Plain. Due to its location, it is often called "the gate of the Great Plain". A shoulder of the Gödöllő hills runs along the western part of the town.
Cegléd liegt knapp 70 Kilometer südöstlich der Hauptstadt Budapest. Nachbargemeinden sind Ceglédbercel, Törtel, Abony, Nagykőrös und Tápiószele.

The Battle of Cegléd was a battle in the Hungarian war of Independence of 1848-1849, fought on 25 January 1849 between the revolutionary Hungarian army led by General Mór Perczel against the cavalry brigade of the Austrian Empire led by General Ferenc Ottinger.
