Boekel (Dutch pronunciation: ⓘ) is a municipality and a town in the southern Netherlands. Etymology [ edit ] Previously it was assumed the name Boekel referred to the forest ("loo" in Dutch) of the lords Boc, similar to places like Boxmeer and Boxtel .
Boekel is ergens in de vroege middeleeuwen ontstaan als een groepje hoeven. In de 13e eeuw maakte Boekel deel uit van de heerlijkheid Uden. In 1233 vond er een scheiding plaats tussen het Land van Cuijk en het Land van Herpen en Uden. Uden vormde in die periode samen met Herpen één heerlijkheid.

Until January 1, 2002, Boekel belonged to the municipality of Akersloot. It had a population of about 10 in 2001. Boekel is located on the west bank of the Noordhollandsch Kanaal.
