The Balkans (/ ˈ b ɔː l k ən z / BAWL-kənz, / ˈ b ɒ l k ən z / BOL-kənz), corresponding partially with the Balkan Peninsula, is a geographical area in southeastern Europe with various geographical and historical definitions.
