The Nepali Civil War was a protracted armed conflict that took place in the then Kingdom of Nepal from 1996 to 2006. It saw countrywide fighting between the Nepalese government and the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), with the latter making significant use of guerrilla warfare.
It is sometimes called the Gorkha War or the Anglo-Nepalese War. The Gurkha War marked the rise of the Gurkha kingdom and the consolidation of the British East India Company's influence in Nepal. The open door for growing power in the region came upon the heels of conflict between three small kingdoms, Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhadgaon.
