Adele of Meaux. Adela of Vermandois ( c. 950 [1] – c. 982) was a French noblewoman. She was Countess of Chalon and later Countess of Anjou. Adela was a daughter of Robert of Vermandois, Count of Meaux and Troyes, and Adelaide de Burgundy. [2] [a] Adele died in 982. [4] Family. She married Geoffrey I of Anjou (c. 938/940 – July 21, 987). [2] .
Death and legacy. Herbert II died on 23 February 943 at Saint-Quentin, Aisne (the capital of the county of Vermandois) from natural causes. [13] The story of him being hanged by king Louis IV (see fig. above) during a hunt is fictitious. [b] His vast estates and territories were divided among his sons. [14]
He married Adele of Meaux (934–982), daughter of Robert of Vermandois and Adelais de Vergy. Their children were: Ermengarde-Gerberga of Anjou (b. 956), married Conan I of Rennes. She married, secondly, William II of Angoulême. Fulk III of Anjou (970-1040), he succeeded his father as Count of Anjou.
