George Douglas Howard Cole (25 September 1889 – 14 January 1959) was an English political theorist, economist, and historian. As a believer in common ownership of the means of production, he theorised guild socialism (production organised through worker guilds).

8 de jun. de 2018 · George Douglas Howard Cole (1889–1959), English historian, economist, and sociologist, was the son of a small builder in Ealing (West London). He had a brilliant career at Oxford, where he was known as a classical scholar and a minor poet, as well as an advanced social thinker.
Its founding is attributed to Thomas Davidson, a Scottish philosopher, and its early members included George Bernard Shaw, Sidney Webb, Annie Besant, Edward Pease, and Graham Wallas. Shaw and Webb, later joined by Webb’s wife, Beatrice, were the outstanding leaders of the society for many years.

Educated at St. Paul’s School, London and Balliol College, Oxford, he became the first Reader in Economics at Oxford in 1925 and was elected Fellow of All Souls in 1944.
