Sophie Friederike Mereau (née Schubart) (27 March 1770 – 31 October 1806) was a writer associated with German Romanticism. Her maiden name was Schubart, but she did most of her work under the married name of Mereau.
As is the case with many nineteenth-century women, literary history has often framed Sophie Mereau (1770–1806) as a muse for the more famous men around her, as a poet in dialogue with the philosophies of the various ages her short life straddled.
