George Washington Parke Custis (April 30, 1781 – October 10, 1857) was an American plantation owner, antiquarian, author, and playwright. His father John Parke Custis was a stepson of George Washington. He and his sister Eleanor grew up at Mount Vernon and in the Washington presidential household.
Best known in his lifetime as the adopted son of George Washington, George Washington Parke Custis eventually became a key figure in preserving the memory and possessions of Washington.

He championed the plights of Irish Americans and war veterans. An important memoirist who knew the first fifteen presidents, he wrote well-received theatrical works and produced paintings rich in historical detail. In inheriting much of the vast Custis fortune, he also became the enslaver of more than 200 persons.

Two years prior to her marriage to George Washington in 1759, Martha Washington was married to a wealthy Virginian named Daniel Parke Custis, whose death left her a young widow. The Custis family became intertwined with the Washington family, as George Washington adopted and raised two generations of Custis children.
The will of George Washington Parke Custis, adopted son of George Washington, grandson of Martha Washington, and father-in-law of Robert E. Lee; the will specified that the executors of his estate must emancipate his slaves within five years of his death. Custis died on October 10, 1857.
