The Dutch artist Anthon van Rappard (1858–92), best known as a friend and correspondent of Vincent van Gogh (1853–90) during the first half of the 1880s, on two occasions spent time sketching in the Utrecht institute, first in the fall of 1882, then again sometime in 1890–91.

Op aanraden van zijn broer Theo bezocht Vincent in 1880 de jonge Hollandse schilder Anthon van Rappard, die in Brussel op de kunstacademie zat. Een wat stroeve kennismaking, tussen deze adellijke ridder en de ‘zwerver’ Vincent. Toch ontwikkelde zich tussen hen een vriendschap.
