Arnold Houbraken (28 March 1660 – 14 October 1719) was a Dutch painter and writer from Dordrecht, now remembered mainly as a biographer of Dutch Golden Age painters.

Houbraken, who lamented the decline of painting in his days, wrote that it was his intention to keep alive the memory of the artists of the glorious seventeenth century, and to encourage apprentices to imitate their excellence. His most important source was the 1675-1679 Teutsche Academie (German Academy) of Joachim von Sandrart.
