Gonzalo Fonseca (1922-1997 ) understood sculpture as a microcosmic way to engage civilization and weave together past and future. He often worked with found stone; considered nature, time, and chance his collaborators; and believed in the universal and transformative power of play.
Gonzalo Fonseca (2 July 1922 – 11 June 1997) was a Uruguayan artist known for his stone sculpting. He originally studied to be an architect at the University of Montevideo, but discovered modern art in 1942 after working in the Taller Torres-Garcia workshop.
