Jacob Ziv (em hebraico: יעקב זיו, também Yaakov Ziv; Tiberíades, 27 de novembro de 1931 – 25 de março de 2023) foi um engenheiro eletricista israelense. Em parceria com Abraham Lempel desenvolveu os algoritmos LZ77 e LZ78, e que sobre suas bases Terry Welch publicou depois o algoritmo LZW.

6 de jan. de 2021 · Jacob Ziv will receive the IEEE Medal of Honor (2021) for “fundamental contributions to information theory and data compression technology, and for distinguished research leadership.” The IEEE Medal of Honor, established in 1917, is the highest IEEE award.
Dr. Ziv joined the Technion in 1970 and was Herman Gross Professor of Electrical Engineering. He was Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering from 1974 to 1976, and Vice President for Academic Affairs from 1978 to 1982.
