Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel (Minden, 22 de julho de 1784 — Königsberg, 17 de março de 1846) foi um matemático, físico e astrônomo alemão. Foi o primeiro astrônomo a determinar valores confiáveis da distância do Sol para outra estrela, através do método da paralaxe .

Während der Ausbildung zum Kaufmann in Bremen erwuchs sein Interesse für die Astronomie.
